Presentation by Georginia Dimopoulos, Southern Cross University, and Emma Nugent, the Centre, as part of a family violence and sexual violence series.

The Centre, in partnership with No to Violence, Safe and Equal, and Sexual Assault Services Victoria are working in collaboration to support better outcomes for family violence and sexual violence service users as well as family service providers. This project will strengthen practice, identify data gaps and build an evidence base in this sector. As part of the collaboration project, OPEN will be facilitating a series of events.

The first event of the series featured two presentations and provided evidence from children and young people who have experiences of the family violence service system. Additionally, this event launched a resource designed to empower family violence professionals in the child and family services sector.

The session included:

  • Presentation on the Children’s Voice for Change research project – Dr Georginia Dimopoulos, Senior Lecturer, Law, Southern Cross University will discuss key findings and insights exploring children’s experiences of family violence services and key areas for improvement, followed by a Panel discussion with the young people who participated as co-researchers and lived experience experts in this project
  • Launch of the Good Practice case studies designed to support family violence professionals in the child and family services sector in their implementation of the MARAM Framework, followed by a practice focussed Q&A with Stephanie O’Mally, Family Services Practitioner at Upper Murray Family Care who will provide on the ground perspective on why MARAM is important in supporting children with an experience of family violence.

This OPEN event will be valuable to those working in the family violence and sexual violence services area as well as policy makers and researchers.

A full event reflection including key messages and other relevant resources will be released soon.
