Supervised contact between children in out of home care and their parents is a vital space for maintaining relationships, supporting identity, and promoting healing. Yet too often, these interactions are narrowly focused on observation and compliance, rather than on the emotional experience of the child and the relational needs of the family. There is growing recognition that contact visits can be more than a procedural requirement—they can be moments that foster safety, connection, and positive change when approached with the right mindset and tools.

Mona Kragelund Ravn is a social worker with a master’s degree in social work and currently a PhD fellow at Aalborg University, Denmark.
Her PhD study contributes to the research project Supervised contact: Support and sustainable development in vulnerable children’s everyday life (SOUL) and focuses on how participation can act as a driving force in social work with supervised contact.
Mona has 20 years of professional experience across social services, including authority and provider roles, management within foster care, and consultancy with responsibility for leadership support and practice development. Throughout her career, she has worked to strengthen social work by integrating research-based insights and practical experience.
She coordinates and teaches basic and elective modules at the Social Work program as well as continuing education on children and young people in vulnerable positions with a focus on organizational and practice development.
Mona is a member of the research group SCOPAS, part of the research environment Research in Social Work (FOSO, AAU).
